How to clean sterling silver

Are your sterling silver pieces looking dull? Tarnish is a fact of life my friends. Luckily, it’s very easy to take care of.

Here are a few quick and easy tips to help bring your pieces back to their shiny original state.

Tip 1

  1. Run to Target and pick up this liquid cleaner for sterling silver jewelry. It’s what I buy, it costs about $5 and is very easy to use. Make sure you DON’T soak your jewelry. Instead, quickly dip your jewelry into the cleaner and immediately rinse with water. Then tap a few drops of liquid dish soap (not dishwasher soap) onto your fingers. Rub the soap onto the piece of jewelry to help remove any remaining silver cleaner. Then rinse again with water.
  2.  Voila! Shiny clean silver!

Tip 2

Maintain your silver jewelry’s shine by polishing it with a silver cleaning cloth, also available at Target.

Tip 3
To keep your jewelry shiny for longer, store it in a sealed bag, like a Ziplock bag or silver storage bag. Put the piece in the bag, close it halfway, then press the bag to get all the air out before you close it the rest of the way. The tarnish comes from oxidation (contact with air), so the more air you can squeeze out of that bag, the better.

I hope this helped! If you have more questions about how I clean and store my sterling silver, feel free to leave a comment below!
